Is also possible to start and / or finish lessons at your work place or school?
Yes. We love doing starting driving lessons in Swords from your work or school. It is so practical to drive the routes you will drive most frequently with your sponsor, at least at the early stages. We frequently meet people near Pavilions shopping centre. Longlands is so handy for this. We have met customers at Airside, Applewood, Swords Business Campus and Park. We can meet at the Airport, although that is a bit trickier. Give us a call and let us know where suits you.
Starting near your school works well too. Sometimes you will want to give your school friends a head start before you start driving or you could be happy to show off your good driving. In conjunction with another group we have done driving and road safety in Colaiste Choilm, with the transition years. This is something we do with lots of schools all over Dublin. We would like to do this in Fingal and Finian’s, Loreto and Swords CC too. For now we will continue giving lessons to students one at a time.
As a learner, where can I drive?
We can start lessons in Swords and all the surrounding ares. But it is great to get you driving to Malahide, Donabate, etc. Why are you learning to drive? Is it to get to work or to visit friends or family. It simply makes sense to take a drive on these roads for practicality and for variety. It is not fair on holding you back by restricting you to driving around the same block for hour after hour. Start on the easy back roads or in the estates. Progress to driving the by-pass, through the roundabouts. You cannot drive on motorways until you get your full licence. The N2 towards Ashbourne is a good road for preparing for this.
Can I do a driving test in Swords?
No. There is no driving test centre in Swords anymore. There was one for a while around 2007. But it is long since closed. Back when the there was a test centre in Swords we would not have left the area all week. Now you will need to go the test centres of Finglas or Raheny. It can work well doing a longer lesson so you can start and finish from your home, while still getting enough time on the routes. Finglas is a little nearer for most people in Swords. But Raheny is not a problem either. These two centres are nearly a home from home.
How much will it cost to learn to drive in Swords? How many driving lessons will I need?
This is always a tricky question. There is no simple answer. The legal minimum number of lessons is twelve EDT driving lessons. We recommend that you let is adjust this syllabus to suit you as an individual. You can get cheap lessons from cheap driving schools. There is usually a reason why they are cheap. It often means you need to take more lessons to learn how to drive properly. There are some very expensive driving schools that have a very pushy sales team. Steer well clear of these. Their one objective is to make money. Don’t believe their claims. No school has a real 99% pass rate. Reviews can be falsified and many schools do this.
All of the testimonials on our site show where they came from; e.g. Facebook or Google. However we do not take photos of customers. Personally I don’t like that. Nor do we cajole people into doing reviews if they do not want to. We and in all honesty many other driving instructors want to teach you to be safe on the roads. Simply by default this is preparing you for the driving test. Safe driving is proper driving and that is what the testers want to see. You pass the test and if you want, say something nice. It’s not rocket science.
Our Dublin driving school also offers lessons throughout Dublin. Additionally we have instructors in other counties too. Now also offering automatic driving lessons in Swords.

Drive properly. Okay, I’ll give a better answer. Get EDT driving lessons from Swords to Finglas or Raheny from a good instructor, who is telling you the right information from the start. Take a fair number of lessons to learn to drive properly. Practice properly. Keep doing what your instructor has told you, when you practice with your sponsor between lessons. If you can’t do this, it means you will need more lessons. Give your instructor a few weeks minimum notice of your test date, to make sure they can get the timing right for the last few pretest driving lessons in Finglas. Study the theory questions, road signs, under the bonnet and internal controls. Make sure your leaner permit, insurance, tax, N.C.T., tyres and lights are in date / in good condition before your test day.
Once you get in there, you have to see that you have done enough preparation so you can now show the tester how well you can drive. I believe saying ‘Don’t be nervous’ is pointless.
